Within the majority of public (and certain private) sector organisations, there are currently three separate strands of legislation which place a statutory duty to positively promote equality. (This is currently Race, Gender and Disability). Under all of these three duties, organisations are required to develop and publish a scheme (or schemes) detailing how your organisation will fulfil its duties to positively promote equality. In the first instance, developing such a scheme can prove to be daunting task and since the scheme could be the subject of future scrutiny (as part of audit and assessment and by members of the public) it is important that the scheme is comprehensively developed, written and published.
McKenzies have comprehensive experience of both developing schemes on behalf of our partner organisations and providing guidance for organisations wanting to develop the schemes for themselves.
