The Equality Act Public Sector Duty - April 2011 places a statutory duty to positively promote Equality and Diversity (E&D).
This duty can be broken down into four key areas. These are:
■ 1: Publishing E&D Information (employees and service users)
■ 2: Publishing E&D Objectives
■ 3: Assessing your Activities (via Equality Impact Analysis)
■ 4: Data Collection and Monitoring.
McKenzies also advocate the development of an over arching Equality and Diversity strategy and action plan detailing how your organisation will fulfil its duties to promote equality. In the first instance, developing such a document can prove to be daunting task and as this could be the subject of future scrutiny (as part of audit and assessment and by members of the public) it is important that the document is comprehensively developed, written and published.
McKenzies have comprehensive experience of both developing policy frameworks, strategies and action plans on behalf of our partner organisations and providing guidance for people wanting to develop this or themselves.
During 2013, recent partner organisations in this area include: The NHS, London and South Bank University, Symphony Housing, Essex County Council, Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, Cannock and Chase Council and the National Patient Safety Agency.
Event includes electronic copies of learning materials and example document templates which were last updated in September 2013 to reflect the latest legislative requirements.
