Preparing For Audits: Public Sector Inspections

The majority of public sector audits, performed for example, by the Audit Commission or the Equality and Human Rights Commission include Equality and Diversity as a 'Key Line of Enquiry'. This will typically require you, as an organisation, to demonstrate, using measurable evidence and outcomes, how you manage and promote equality and diversity both internally as an employer and in the provision of your services or facilities.

An audit will also normally include an inspection of the action you have taken to meet the current three statutory duties to positively promote Race, Gender and Disability. (As part of your statutory requirements duties under the Gender, Disability and Race Equality Duties).

How can McKenzies work with you in preparing for your audit?

We can work with you in a number of different ways which include:

  • Ensuring your organisation has a robust, overarching equality and diversity strategy linked to your core values and objectives
  • Writing, publishing or advising on your equality schemes

  • Performing Equality Impact Assessments or developing strategies / equality schemes on your behalf
  • Advising on the effective collection and monitoring of equality statistics (employees and service users)
